Fort Ross 200 year Celebration

One item on our summer bucket list was to visit  Fort Ross during the summer celebration. Fort Ross is a  historic state park on the Pacific Coast.  It was a Russian outpost back in the 1800's.  Since LJ is Russian and we are not likely to go to Russia ourselves anytime soon, I figured it was a win-win.  However, I was not sure if LJ would like it since some education and history was involved.  There is a  fine line between a successful, fun educational outing and an unsuccessful one.  The previous filled with family fun and the later a joyous hour drive home in sulky silence. This one was a winner!   It was a beautiful day at the coast, perfect weather.

Learning how the settlers made rope.

Example of how the settlers cooked and the food available to them at the time.

Carving of an actual totem pole.  ( Does not sound very Russian, does it?  But many native Alaskans lived at the settlement as well.)

A phenomenal Russian folk signing and dancing troupe all the way from Moscow.  It was quite impressive.

Looks like fun! We have a pioneer village near us, it is pretty neat to see stuff from back then.
